We want to let you know about an important Clerk/MV update we’ll be distributing in the next 24 hours. It is critical that you install the upcoming update this week or you will not be able to continue to process MAAP transactions next week.
First, a little background. In an effort to enhance the security of MAAP transmissions even further, the DMV has modified the method by which third party software such Avitar Clerk/MV must connect to MAAP in order to access data and submit transactions. (If you’re interested in the full technical reason, after Friday DMV will only be allowing SSL v3 connections in order to comply with more stringent PCI requirements.)
The change to MAAP requires that, prior to DMV’s implementation, we provide you with a software update so that your ability to connect to MAAP will not be interrupted. DMV has requested that our users have the update deployed by the close of business on Friday, February 3, 2012 (i.e this Friday). If the update is not deployed you will not be able to connect to MAAP beginning on Saturday, February 4, 2012.
Here’s what you need to know moving forward…
- Within the next 24 hours we will provide you with a link you can use to download the necessary update and update notes. This update will be virtually identical to others you’ve traditionally received from us, minus the shiny disc.
- Between the time you receive the update and the close of business Friday you will need to run the update on each workstation that you need to have operational after February 3, 2012. Note that you will not be able to use the existing Avitar program (with the current connection standard) to connect to the MAAP environment once DMV implements the change. If, however, you have a workstation you only use occasionally or will be unable to update until next week you can still proceed with updating all other machines and simply avoid using the single workstation until after it can be updated.
- You can deploy this update anytime prior to the close of business on Friday and still connect to MAAP. Note that you will be able to use the updated Avitar program (with the new connection standard) to connect to the existing MAAP environment prior to DMV implementing the change.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions, especially if you expect you will be unable to implement the update by the close of business this Friday. Also, expect to receive an email in the next 24 hours which you can use to download the update.
