There is some confusion about when to select Owner to Owner vs. Lease to Lease in regards to processing a lease transfer for a customer who wants to transfer plates from their old leased vehicle to their new leased vehicle.
An Owner to Owner transfer is used when you are processing a transfer for a vehicle leased by the same leasing company. For example, the customer’s old vehicle was leased with Ford Motor Credit and their new vehicle is leased with Ford Motor Credit. As long as the leasing company is not changing, it is an Owner to Owner transfer.
Lease to Lease transfer is used when the leasing company for the new vehicle is different from the vehicle you are transferring the plates from. For example, the customer’s old vehicle was leased with Ford Motor Credit and their new vehicle is leased with Toyota Leasing.
