2013 MS-1: Latest News

Quick update in the status of the MS-1…. We received final word from DRA earlier today on a few nuances of the XML file that we now generate to populate their new PDF form. (If you missed the earlier explanation you can see it here.) We have built the update and we are currently doing final testing, with the expectation that we will be able to mail it out to you tomorrow (Friday, August, 16th). If that changes for any reason we’ll let you know. Also, you can get a bit of a head start by making sure you have the recent version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer and by reviewing a draft of our instructions that summarize the new MS-1 process.  We’ll be in touch soon.  Thanks.

2015 Decal Inventory

Last September we posted a blog “Assigning Decal Color to 2014 Decal Inventory.” You should be receiving your 2015 decal inventory, so we felt a refresher on the topic might be helpful. Note, the 2015 decals are a dark blue, so when assigning the background color, you will need to change the text color of the decal as well or you will not be able to see the decal numbers. White is usually a good choice for the text color when the background color is dark. Click here to view our prior blog “Assigning Decal Color to 2014 Decal Inventory.”

Time once again for our favorite annual late-summer traditions: water bans and rolling black-outs, the last of the ill-conceived Hollywood blockbusters, NFL training camp injury and arrest reports, the mathematical elimination of our favorite teams from World Series playoff contention, and of course the preparation/submission of the MS-1 Report. Here’s what you need to know about your MS-1 over the next several weeks.

Vital Record Fee Changes

We learned yesterday that SB 128 modified the allocation of fees that are to be collected for Vital Records. Originally we were confused, given that the bill text indicates “This act shall take effect July 1, 2015.” However, we did some checking and apparently HB 2 modified the effective date to July 1, 2013.  So here’s what it means to our Clerk/MV users.

Gross Living Area

In the Assessing update last year, this was a new feature we added. We have often heard from users of the system that they don’t understand what “effective area” is and that real estate agents and appraisers are often looking for Gross Living Area. As such, this feature was added, however I have noticed many of you are not using this new feature. Continue reading
